About Daisy the Herbalist
I have always been deeply interested in nature. I lived in London for many years and it was there that I first learnt the wonderful world of food for free. My mother having been taught by her father taught me identification of many plants and mushrooms that I could eat safely. As time went on I realised that plants also can heal on many other levels. From healing minor first aid to easing emotional turmoil to treating chronic and very serious illness.
I first studied and obtained a BS honours degree in Classical civilisation with special interest in Greek mythology. This not only was inspirational in learning about herbal medicine due to the vast reference to herbal medicine. But also a deep study into the human psyche. In my early 20’s, I worked in the British Museum in the prehistoric department as assistant curator. A very interesting education and wonderful experience especially handling tools including pestle and mortar made by the first peoples to evolve on this planet.
For many years I gave simple herbal teas and flower essences to family and friends. As time went by I wanted to learn more about the world of herbal medicine, especially due to my dream of opening up a healing centre.
After completing a one year herbal medicine class with Nina Nissan in the late 1990’s. I then studied the BSc four year course at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine. At this time practising aromatherapy massage.
I am a member of The National Institute of Medical Herbalists.
I lived and ran my own herbal clinic for 10 years in Glasgow, Scotland.
I taught herbal medicine at various levels and was part of a team organising herbal conferences.
Professional and personal development creating growth of knowledge is of great importance to me. I have studied with many different herbalists and healers over the years and continue to go to a range of lectures, seminars and courses taught by many inspiring people in their fields.
I am very interested in Yoga and have a great passion for dance and music esp song and drum.
I believe that music and dance have powerful healing benefits.
Even if one explores their musical ways in the comfort of their own home, healing will take place.
The Story continues
The importance of having land and creating a safe place for people to heal has been in my dreams since childhood. As the years have past and observing the heavy farming practices that go on, having land and protecting it has been of equal importance.
Since 2013 I have been living in the Algarve, Portugal with my partner Corey creating Ceratonia.
We have 8 acres which we are tenderly landscaping with huge respect and guidance from the abundant variety of plants already growing.
The land provides medicinal gardens which include an abundance of wild flowers, bushes and beautiful old Olive, Carob and Almond trees. As well as planted Herb areas such as Calendula's garden which is planned around the Chakra system.
The Enchanted Garden and a new area in honour of The Seven Directions and
The Medicine Wheel.
We have planted 100s of trees, creating fruit and nut orchards and trees from around the world with low water needs. There is also an abundance of Roses everywhere! We have an organic vegetable garden that provides wonderful produce.
We have built a centre that has accommodation, practical pharmacy kitchen, eating areas
and teaching spaces.
An important aspect of the healing process for anyone experiencing herbal medicine, is to be able to familiarise themselves with the growing plant in nature.
